Epogen General Information
Epogen (generic name: epoetin alfa; brand names include: Procrit / Eprex) is a synthetic form of erythropoietin, a glycoprotein hormone that controls red blood cell production.
Epogen has the same biological effect as the natural erythropoietin. It is indicated for the treatment of anemia (low red blood cell count) associated with chronic kidney disease, including patients on dialysis. It may also be used in patients receiving zidovudine to treat HIV, and patients receiving chemotherapy for certain types of cancer (non-myeloid cancers).
This products is a generic version of Epogen.
Epogen Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take your medicine exactly as directed.
Epogen is usually given as an injection 1-3 times a week.
Epogen Precautions
Tell your doctor before using Epogen, if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have any serious medical conditions including uncontrolled hypertension;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
